Brevard College was founded in 1853 and is the oldest university in the North Carolina mountains.
The College is a 4 year coeducational, private, comprehensive liberal arts university; affiliated with the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Institution is situated on a 120-acre campus within the City of Brevard, North Carolina; close to the Blue Ridge Parkway Pisgah National Forest, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the city of Asheville, the Asheville Regional Airport and the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.

Brevard offers Bachelor of Arts; Bachelor of Music; Bachelor of Science degrees.

There are Fifty six full-time faculty; 66% hold the highest academic degree in their field; 48% have tenure and the student-faculty ratio is Ten to One.

The College has 584 students from Thirty four states and nine foreign countries; 94% full-time; 70% residential; 53%male, 47% female; 48% in-state students from 48 counties, 52% out-of-state and international students.

   87 percent of students receive merit-based and/or need-based scholarships, grants, and loans; $7 million in aid was coordinated for Brevard College students in 2003-2004 for 578 students.

BREVARD COLLEGE ATHLETICS PROGRAM

Brevard University boasts a successful and distinguished history in intercollegiate athletics, taking out 9 national team championships as a community college (1937-2000).  During this period, more than Two hundred Brevard College student athletes received All American honors.  Since completing the transition to a 4 year college in 2000, the School has been an active member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is now making the transition from the NAIA to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II; During the last 5 years, Brevard sports teams have won Ten conference titles and made Nine national tournament appearances.

Football Rules The offense has four plays or downs to cover ten yards or more. A play ends when the player with the ball is either stopped or goes out-of-bounds or if the ball is thrown and missed (which is called an incomplete pass).

"Both of the sports we're adding are very popular in Ohio," said Hlavacek, "especially in the northeast. Notre Dame College is looking to offer those talented student athletes a way to continue their sports participation at the collegiate level, while at the same time offering them an opportunity to receive a quality education."
