Brenau University Athletic Scholarships

Brenau University was established in 1878 and its main campus is located in Gainesville, Georgia. Brenau has campuses in Augusta, Kings Bay, and Atlanta, as well as online courses to ensure accessibility. It is a private, non-profit institution that offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Brenau has a student body of 2,800 and employs 125 academic staff and faculty. Although it is a co-educational institution, the majority of its students – 81% – are female. Brenau also has its own Women’s College with 900 enrollees, where courses fine arts programs and learning disability programs are offered. Brenau University has four colleges: Fine Arts and Humanities, Health and Science, Business and Mass Communication, and Education. Students can earn their Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in over 30 majors. For high school students who demonstrate high academic potential, Brenau offers an early college program.

Athletics Department at Brenau University

The athletics department at Brenau became a prominent part of campus and college life in 2002, after some time of being a neglected department. In the years since its comeback, Brenau University’s athletics department has made significant improvements, and the athletic excellence demonstrated by its 9 all-female varsity teams serves as testimony to this.

Athletic facilities at Brenau include both on campus and off-campus sports complexes. At the main campus in Gainesville, the largest facility is the fitness center, which has a pool, weight room, aerobic exercise machines and a gymnasium. There is also a tennis center with 6 outdoor courts and 2 indoor courts. Nearby off-campus facilities include the Allen Creek Soccer Complex and the Lanier Park Softball Complex.

Athletic Programs at Brenau University

The athletic programs at Brenau University offer only varsity sports. These sports are only for female student-athletes and include basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, cheerleading, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Through its varsity sports programs, Brenau seeks to provide opportunities for its female student-athletes to develop their leadership and team-building skills through intercollegiate competitions. Intramural sports and club sports are not offered at Brenau given the institution’s strong focus on academics.

Official Sports Team: Golden Tigers

The Brenau Golden Tigers are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference. The Golden Tigers tennis team has won a number of regional and conference titles, among them two national championships in 1999 and 2002. Four Golden Tiger teams – cheerleading, softball, tennis, and swimming – all ranked in the top 10 most successful national sports teams. In 2011, the cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, volleyball, basketball and tennis teams all earned the title of NAIA Scholar Teams, with all student-athletes holding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Brenau University

Scholarships at Brenau University are available through the Women’s College and are therefore only applicable to the female majority of the student body. All of the scholarships are based on academic excellence, taking into account ACT or SAT scores, transcript records, and cumulative GPAs. The Brenau’s Scholars Program is the most prestigious award and covers for full tuition for one academic year. Other scholarships include the Trustee and Faculty Excellence Scholarship worth $5,500 to $11,000 per academic year, the Brenau Achievement Grants worth $3,500 to $8,500 per academic year, and the Brenau Opportunity Grants for those who are not eligible for the scholarships of higher value. All scholarships have the possibility of renewal.

Athletic scholarships for women are available from the athletic department. Female student-athletes who play on varsity basketball, soccer, swimming, softball, tennis, volleyball, cross country or track and field teams may apply for athletic scholarships.
