Bloomsburg University (BU), a four-year public university and is one of fourteen members of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. the university in 1939 as the "Bloomsburg Literary Institute".

The school is situated on a 282-acre campus overlooking the town of Bloomsburg, PA in north-central Pennsylvania.

College students can choose from sixty three undergraduate majors, thirty eight undergraduate minors and eighteen graduate programs leading to master's degrees and a doctorate in audio logy. There are also several certificate programs are offered for professional educators.

BU has an enrollment of close to eight thousand  undergraduate and 800 graduate students with a faculty-to-student ratio of 20:1.

The 'Huskies' of Bloomsburg University compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II (D I wrestling) Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

The Bloomsburg field hockey team won three consecutive national titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The Huskies have won 12 NCAA titles under current coach Jan Hutchinson, who is in her 28th season at Bloomsburg.
