blackfeet COMMUNITY COLLEGE

 

Blackfeet Community College is known  locally as BCC. The institution is a two/year public Tribally Controlled Junior College that is located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, Montana.

The school was originally established by a Tribal Charter of the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council in 1974, and is funded by the Tribally Controlled Community Colleges Assistance Act. In 1994 the college was granted Land Grant status and, since 1994, has been identified as a Land Grant Institution.

The majority  of the school's student population resides and works on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. In 2001, Blackfeet Community College started planning for the delivery of internet based academic college courses. In 2003 the school offered its 1st schedule of courses on-line.

During the past several years BCC has seen expansion and improvements its grounds and facilities.

In 2000, the Beaver Painted Lodge was completed. The lodge is the main classroom building and currently houses the Presidents office, Dean of Students Offices – Bookstore, Registrar, Financial Aid and Student Support Services; the Blackfeet Studies Department is also located in the facility, and Adult Education Program.

In 2003 the Blackfeet Community College completed a major improvement of its grounds by accessing funds to complete paving on its main parking area, sidewalks, and installation of lawns. Currently 2 new buildings are being constructed. A 5,000 sq. foot building is being constructed to serve as the main administrative office and the 2nd will serve as an alternative high school through an arrangement with Browning School District and the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council.
