NESCAC NEW ENGLAND SMALL COLLEGE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Bates College was founded in 1855 by Maine abolitionists, the
institution is an independent college situated in Lewiston, Maine.
The school is considered to be one of the top liberal arts schools
in the country.
The school is dedicated to the principle of active
engagement. Typically, two-thirds of the institutions 1,700 students
study abroad in foreign countries.
Most of the college's students take part in
club and varsity sports;
many participate in performing arts; and just about all students
take part in one of more of the ninety student-run
organizations and clubs. Alumni frequently cite the capacities they
learned and developed at Bates for critical assessment, aesthetic
sensibility analysis, expression and independent thought.
Approximately forty percent of students participate in career
internships, and more than two-thirds of recent graduates enroll in
graduate study within ten years of graduation.
Bates College is a member institution of the National Collegiate Athletic
Association and competes in Division III
