THE BALL GAME IN AUSTRALIA

So your season's finished and winter is setting in....think again. Australia's major summer baseball competition starts in October and finishes in March and American and canadian players are in demand

Information and recruiting guidelines of the Australian Baseball League.

Latest: The Footscray Baseball Club, located in the Melbourne suburb of Yarraville, (only 8kms from the CBD) is looking for a pitcher for the upcoming summer season which commences in October 2010. See contact details below.

Australian baseball history goes back a long way and the game continues to grow in popularity. American players can expect to play a high standard game and enjoy a "vacation" down under.

In the interests of fairness game rules usually restrict the number of import players that each club can field at any one time. For example a pitcher can only pitch every 2nd game and only 2 import players can be on the field at any given time. Most Americans play in the various State Leagues which are the top grade in Australia.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE:

The league is always on the lookout for quality playing personnel.

The current priority for player recruitment is:

Australian nationals (both free agents and those contracted to Major League Baseball organizations); and / or
·Overseas nationals currently contracted to professional baseball organizations.

Players who don’t fulfill the above criteria may still be considered, however, it would be unlikely that they would be offered a contract “sight unseen”.
The league will be holding open try-outs in various Australian cities later this year. Details will be advertised here: www.the ABL.com.au

You may still be considered by many amateur clubs... See the contact list above....
