Baker University Athletic Scholarships

Baker University, located in Baldwin City, Kansas, is a private higher educational institution and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Established in 1858, Baker University is the oldest university in the state. Today, the university has a student body of approximately 4,000 enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Academic programs are divided into four schools: College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Professional and Graduate Studies, and School of Nursing. With 37 degree and professional programs in fields such as international business, religion, accounting, health and medicine, theater, and language studies, students at Baker University have many options. Athletics Department at Baker University

The athletics department at Baker University offers varsity sports for male and female student-athletes, as well as the necessary support services such as sports medicine and academic guidance to ensure that all students succeed in both sports and academics.

Athletic facilities at Baker University include the Cavaness Field for softball; the Alvarmar Golf Course; the Collins Gymnasium for basketball, wrestling and volleyball; the Mabee Memorial Hall for basketball and cheerleading; the Laury Tennis Courts; the North Park for baseball; and the Liston Stadium for track, football and soccer.

Athletic Programs at Baker University

Varsity sports offered through the athletics department include men’s cross country, baseball, football, basketball, fold, soccer, track and field, tennis, and wrestling, as well as women’s soccer, golf, cross country, basketball, bowling, tennis, track and field, and volleyball, making a total of 18 teams.

In addition to varsity sports, intramural sports provide an opportunity for students to play in a non-competitive level that emphasizes fun. Intramural sports at Baker University include softball, dodgeball, flag football, indoor soccer, putt-putt golf, volleyball, basketball and more. Intramural sports are offered on a seasonal basis, thus winter and spring sports teams are different.

Official Sports Team: Baker Wildcats

The Baker Wildcats are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Region V and compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Wildcats’ mascot is a cat named Wowzer. The Wildcats have been participating in intercollegiate sports since 1890; however, it has been only since 1978 that female athletes became part of the athletic scene in Baker University.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Baker University

At Baker University, many students receive financial assistance to make their education more affordable. In the College of Arts and Sciences, 90% of freshmen receive some kind of financial aid, many of which are scholarships. For freshmen, there are 3 prestigious competition awards: the full-tuition Harter Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship worth $4,000, and the Dean’s Scholarship worth $2,000. These scholarships require high academic standing and status as a full-time student. Other scholarships for incoming freshmen include the Honor’s Scholarship of $11,000, the Academic Merit Scholarship of $9,000, the Wildcat Scholarship of $7,000, and the University Award of $5,000. There are also four transfer scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $11,000. External scholarship opportunities, such as the United Methodist Scholars Program, should also be explored by students.
