Babson College Athletic scholarships

Founded in 1919, Babson College is the country’s top-ranking business school, internationally recognized for its award-winning undergraduate curriculum that emphasizes practical business training. An average-sized school, Babson’s faculty members are mostly businessmen; student population is 3,380 with a student to faculty ratio is 14:1.

Babson College’s 350-acre campus is located in Wellesley, Massachusetts; its most popular landmark is the 28-foot diameter Babson Globebuilt in 1955.Inside are first-rate academic buildings and sports facilities that include four basketball hoops with retractable batting cages, skating center, 6-lane, 25-yard pool with 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards, LED board and bleachers for 150 spectators,fitness center with state-of-the art equipment including 26 cardiovascular machines, dance studio with full-length mirrors and dance bars for exercise, dance and martial arts classes, weight room exclusive to Babson’s varsity athletes, squash and racquetball courts, and 6-lane, 200-meter indoor track for runners and walkers.

There are eight full-sized, fully enclosed tennis courts with seating for 100 spectators, and a 100-yard x 70-yard rugby pitch, practice field for hockey, lacrosse and soccer and for club and intramural teams. Babson’s softball complex, baseball and soccer fields are among the finest in the region, if not the country.

Athletics Department of Babson College

Athletics has always been a key ingredient for an exciting college life at Babson. The school designed comprehensive sports programs for all levels – varsity, club and intramural. In whatever level the students are expected to exhibit excellence and outstanding sportsmanship, loyalty, leadership, integrity and honor. Entrepreneurial thoughts and action complement and reinforce Babson’s athletic and academic missions.

The school offers varsity programs focusing on excellence, teamwork and competitive spirit as they prepare for conference championships. The club sport programs, on the other hand, underscore active participation and effective leadership, as well as playing good role models for other students. School intramural and recreation programs are aimed at maximum participation in various activities and promoting camaraderie and goodwill among the students in the Babson community.

Athletic Programs of Babson College

Babson College offers 22 varsity programs. The men’s varsity programs cover track and field, swimming and diving, cross country, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, ice hockey, golf, tennis and Alpine skiing. Women’s sports include Alpine skiing, field hockey, track and field, basketball, volleyball, softball, cross country, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and swimming and diving. Club sports consist of baseball, cricket, co-ed volleyball, indoor track & field, badminton, table tennis, men’s soccer, men’s rugby, men’s ice hockey, men’s basketball, women’s ice hockey, women’s rugby, equestrian, ultimate disk (Frisbee), and cheerleading.

The majority of Babson’s varsity players compete in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) of NCAA Division III. The golf team competes in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) where they won the title in 2011 and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA; the men’s lacrosse team plays in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC); the alpine ski men’s and women’s teams play in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA); the men’s ice hockey team joins the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Official Sports Team: Babson Beavers

The Babson Beavers started winning in intercollegiate competitions when All-American swimmer Craig Saint-Amour won the NAIA district championship in 1973. Since then, the Beavers have placed in more than 50 season conferences, and bagged several national titles,individually and as a team,the most notable of which were: men’s skiing team – first in the 35-year history of the Thomson Division to win five consecutive titles (1980-84); volleyball finished 3rd in NEW 8 standings- best-ever conference finish with program record-setting season wins; women’s field hockey – first women’s team to win an ECAC New England Championship (1994); NEWMAC swimmer of the year with eight conference titles and 16 program records; Babson was honored with the Diversity in Athletics Award in the category of Gender Equality (2009); and Babson was the only undefeated women’s basketball team in the country in Division I, II and III in 2012.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Babson College

Babson College is affiliated with the NCAA Division III; the school does not offer any athletic scholarships. However, Babson offers federal, state/local and institutional grants and loans to students. Student-athletes may avail of merit and need-based financial packages in varying amounts to help with their education costs. Requirements for eligibility for financial aid and grants must be met by student applicants.

Babson’s athletic and recreation programs are ably funded by the B-Club – family, friends and alumni who have committed their yearly support through the Fund for Babson – which provides the resources to meet the most important and immediate needs of the athletes.
