SOFTBALL

College Bound by Jamie Yaniga Ever since eighth grade softball has been a big part of my life. It was hard at first because usually in order to go far in such a competitive sport one needs to start out at an early age. Like my sister, she started at the age of five and now plays Division I softball for George Washington University.

Trust And Perseverance by Kasuandra Lopez. We had our first tournament with only two days of practice together. We were all unsure, but hopeful, only to get our hopes shattered when we had won one out of five games we played. Our next practice was not fun. We ran, drilled, drilled, and drilled some more. At the end of practice coach told us if we were not ready for harder practices and to learn a lot in return for working hard then his team was not the team for us.

Softball Life by Jacqulyn Torrez I threw the ball all the way from third base to first base. “BAM!” I got the out. The game was over. “Yes you did it!” That was what the team said. But I said in reply, “No we did it!” We had won the game with a score of 17 to 10. We have never seen our coach so happy--that is until we won state.

Just A Game by Erika Mueller Fastpitch is not just what I play, an extracurricular to pass the time, another letter for my varsity jacket, or even a way to meet new friends. I love this game and have experienced every emotion through my playing. It may just be a game to most, but to me, this game is my life. It is what I live for.

The Yellow and Red Ball That Changes Lives by Cassandra Davidson  Softball is not simply about hits, runs, wins and losses; it is about life lessons. At the beginning of a season teammates may be just that – people on the same team. At the end of a season a team should be composed of people who really know each other.

The Big Play-Off Game by Melissa Nagel. It was the first play off game of my sophomore year at Spaulding High School and we were playing Manchester Memorial. Manchester was hosting the game and we were about to play another magnificent game of softball.

Strong by Summer Athey. Two years ago, I played for a little league softball team. We won our championship. After that came all-stars.

Softball is one of only three sports in the NCAA which are designated as women only sports, the others are Field Hockey and Rowing. The NCAA Division II and Division III championships also began in 1982.

Most leading colleges universities, including community colleges, run their own softball camps as well over the summer. These softball camps can provide you with very specific additional development and training and also get you noticed by the college softball coaches.

An Amazing Turnaround by Jenny Krawiec. Before this season, my softball team at school wouldn’t even be seen as a team. We didn’t work together, we didn’t bond at all, and we all shared a passion of hate towards our previous head coach.

Me Vs Myself by Danielle Engel. This isn’t one of those stories where it’s a tied game with two outs, bases loaded, and a full count on the batter. No. The score was ten to one, and we had already lost.

The popularity of women's fastpitch softball has grown steadily since the professional league's end in 1980. In fact, once again, there is another professional fastpitch league called the NPF (National Pro Fastpitch League).

Today more than forty million people play it each summer, making softball the No. one team participant sport in the USA.

The battle for recognition of the wonderful game of softball is over. Softball has won a place among America's foremost sports." The recognition of the sport increased tremendously when softball was finally accepted as an Olympic sport in 1991.

In 1887, George Hancock, a journalist for the Chicago Board of Trade, invented softball. He designed the game as a form of indoor baseball on a cold winter day inside the warm Farragut Boat Club.

There are as many different ideas put forward about the origins of Poker as there are variations of the game. The most plausible explanation is that the Chinese first invented the game around nine hundred A.D.
