THE GAME OF FOOTBALL BY AUSTIN SMITHEY

The game of football has really taken over my life. My father is a high school football coach in Texas. Needless to say I have moved numerous amounts of times. I've attended a total of nine different schools and three different high schools.

It has made it very hard to keep friends, but in that same respect, its allowed me to make countless new friends. My Sophomore year of High School was great. I was all ready a two time All-District football and basketball player.

The Spring of that year I attended many college football camps who's coaches were all very impressed with me. Everyone in their right mind though I would go Division 1. That was until I suffered a terrible injury in a 7on 7 game. I herniated a disk in my back and tore some muscles. One doctor I went to told me that I would never be able to play again. I was devastated. But I used the lessons that my coaches preached to me everyday at practice and took them to the training room.

I worked hard, intense and focused through the pain. I set a goal for myself that I was going to make it back for my senior season. By using the perseverance that I learned on the field as well as some help from God, I was able to make it back and start for one of the top High School football teams in the country my senior year. In the end, I was able to earn a very small scholarship to play football for Harding University.

Football has done so much for me. Without the lessons that I learned from playing the game, I would never have been able to make it back from that injury and never would've earned the chance to live out my dream and play college football.

The game is played by 2 opposing teams of 11. The football field is level, measures 100 by 53 1-3 yd (91.4 by 48.8 m),it is divided off by lateral stripes every 5 yd (4.57 m) and has at each end an end zone 10 yd (9.14 m) deep. Football rules.
