A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR THE OAKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS BY NICOLE
FLETCHER, OAKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL WASHINGTON.
As the summer seems to be ending and the new year Is approaching, I
am excited for all the school spirit to come. As a squad we have
been working hard all summer long preparing for the new season. This
year we have an amazing bunch of girls that are determined,
enthusiastic and hardworking, who will represent Oakville High
School in a positive manner.
Our responsibility is to uphold and project the ideas of your school
and community. Our goal for the year is to create new school spirit,
better then it has been before! In July, while at cheerleading camp
held at Saint Martins University we made a pledge, we pledged to
remain faithful to our squad members and our expectations while
being positive role models in our community.
Peewee Acorn Cheerleading has been a big hit with the children so
far! To start cheerleading at such a young age can be quite
beneficial. Not only will young athletes learn the fundamentals
necessary to succeed in cheerleading, but they also develop the
skills needed to be successful in other facets of life. Being a part
of a team provides the opportunity for youth to gain more
self-reliance and self confidence on an individual level while
learning the importance of teamwork as well.

Cheerleaders are like
any other athletes, the earlier you start, the better, for they are
our future. Through the Peewee Acorn Cheerleading, these children
will learn the fundamentals of being a high school athlete.
Another success in out small town was the 1st annual Open House of
the Year. The cheerleaders joined with the Oakville PTSA to serve a
taco dinner. It was estimated that about 300 people walked through
the cafeteria.
As captain of the cheerleaders, I would like to say that our squad
loves to help out and serve our community. As the community
continues to grow and support our squad, we will do all we can to
give back and support our fellow Acorns! |

on one of the offensive players.

dedication, you can turn bad to good.
Confessions of a Male Cheerleader, by Travis Cole. Many
people look at cheerleaders and think only of girls
in skirts. But they are much more than that. I
happen to be one of the few male cheerleaders in the
state of Maine.
