southern Conference Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University was founded in 1899 and was originally called Watauga Academy, the college is situated in Boone, North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The university is rated 4th among the South’s best public universities and twelfth overall among public and private and public universities according to U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges Guide. Appalachian has ranked in the top fifteen among southern universities since the rankings first kept in 1986. The Sports teams at Appalachian State University compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I level and are a member institution of the Southern Conference. The college football team competes at the Division I-AA level. The 17,000-seat Kidd Brewer Stadium is home to Appalachian football, field hockey and outdoor track and field, while the Holmes Convocation Center holds 8,400 for volleyball, basketball and indoor track and field. Red Lackey Field currently hosts baseball, Varsity Gym is home to wrestling, and soccer and cross country are played at state farm field. |
