Alpena Community College

The Alpena Community College main campus is situated on seven-hundred acres in Alpena, Michigan, just a short distance from Lake Huron. the Huron Shores Campus in Oscoda serves residents in and around Iosco County. The college also offers selected classes in Rogers City, Whittemore and Tawas City.

 
ACC offers 2-year degrees, 1-year certificates, customized training and cultural opportunities to all of Northeast Michigan. Each semester, the school attracts more than two-thousand credit students of diverse backgrounds and ages.

About 2/3 of students live in the Alpena area, while the remaining 1/3 or so come from neighboring Alcona, Iosco, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.

By 1959, Alpena Community College was accredited by the Michigan Commission on College Accreditation, and it awarded associate in arts, associate in commerce, and associate in science degrees.

 Full accreditation came in March 1963 from the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. It has remained continuously accredited, with the latest ten-year re-accreditation granted in 1998.
Alpena Community College belongs to the Eastern Division Michigan Community College Athletic Association. Currently, the college fields basketball and golf teams for men and basketball, softball and volleyball for women.

The intramural program is operated for the benefit of all Alpena Community College students who want to take part in team sports for fun and friendly competition. Activities include flag football, bowling, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, softball, and others.
