ALABAMA SOUTHERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Alabama Southern Community College is a learning-centered, open
admissions, comprehensive community college dedicated to meeting the
changing and continuing educational needs of the citizens of Southwest
Alabama.
Alabama Southern junior College serves as a catalyst for comprehensive
community and economic development by providing university transfer
programs, developmental studies, business and industry training, learning
resources, student development services, technical/occupational programs and
community services.
Alabama Southern is a state-supported, fully accredited, comprehensive
2-year college serving southwest Alabama with campuses in Gilbertown,
Monroeville, Thomasville , Jackson and Demopolis. There is a wide selection
of excellent university transfer and career programs, outstanding faculty
and staff, friendly atmosphere and small classes have proven to be the right
formula for success for over 80,000 alumni.

Intercollegiate Athletics.
Alabama Southern Community College is a member of the National
Junior College Athletic Association and the Alabama Junior and
Community College Conference. The College competes in
intercollegiate athletics in women's basketball and softball and
men's baseball and basketball.
The College competes with other
members of the conference and community colleges from other
states. The coaches recruit and award an allocated number of
scholarships per sport. Tryouts are also held on a scheduled
basis. The Alabama State Board of Education requires drug
testing for all student athletes. Copies of the guidelines
relating to drug testing are available in the Athletic
Director's Office. Title IX requires a gender equity report as
it relates to intercollegiate athletics.

The percentage of girls playing high
school sports has increased dramatically since Congress approved
Title IX, increasing from the neighborhood of 3 percent to more than 33
percent.
When it comes to cutting men's track programs, West Virginia is hardly
alone. In the last few years, universities such as St. John's, Tulane,
Vermont, Toledo and Bowling Green have all
axed their men's track teams.
As if firing him wasn't enough,
Isiah Thomas, the Knicks
president, is now accused of raiding veteran assistant coach Dick
Helm's personal bank account.
