AIKEN TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Aiken Technical College has a long and respected history in the Aiken community. Classes for what is now Aiken Technical College (ATC) began in temporary facilities in Aiken in the fall of1972. 177 students enrolled in the 1ST class of what was then Aiken Technical Education Center. The current campus opened in the winter of 1973.

The original ATC campus consisted of ONLY 3 buildings constructed at a cost of $2.3 million - $800,000 provided by Aiken County and the remainder coming from federal education grants. Now, nearly thirty years after its founding, ATC has grown into a multi-service, 2-year comprehensive college offering numerous educational opportunities in college transfer, public service, health, business, industrial, engineering technology and computer technology programs.

More than 3,400 students enroll in credit courses each year, and ATC's non-credit programs reach nearly ten-thousand people each year.
