Four Questions You Should Ask Before Using A College Sports Recruiting Service

Do I Want to Use a Recruiting Service?

Recruiting is one of those things that you can do on your own. The question is do you have the know-how, time and skill to do it? There are several recruiting services available to help you through the process. They specialize in recruiting all sports and some are sports specific.

Websites like ours are a great resource to find out about recruiting in terms of what you are getting in to, what you need to do, and where to start. However, we always recommend speaking to a recruiting service to find out how much value they can offer to your specific recruiting needs.

Questions to Ask a Recruiting Service

What is your success rate with placing student-athletes? If anyone tells you they have a 100% success rate, RUN! Even the most successful companies cannot get everyone recruited, there are injuries and factors out of their control. Only a school can offer a scholarship or a place on a team–the recruiting company has no control over that.

Are They Selective?

How do you qualify your potential clients? You want to make sure that a recruiting service is selective in who they allow to be clients. There are several reasons for this. First, if they’re willing to take anyone without checking the talent level then they are more interested in cashing checks than they are getting quality athletes recruited.

If they don’t qualify their student-athletes then they have no quality control of the athletes they are showcasing to colleges. You want a recruiting service that has the reputation within the college coaching community for working with quality athletes.

What is Expected of Me?

What is my involvement in the recruiting process if I become a client? You always want to be involved with your own recruiting process; you are using a recruiting process for exposure, time savings and advice, not so they do everything for you.

You want a coach to recruit you, not your parent, friend or recruiting service so you need to be very involved helping update your information and talking with coaches yourself. When it’s time to talk to coaches or see what schools are interested in you, you are the ONLY person that knows what you are looking for and what your initial gut feeling tells you about a situation. BE INVOLVED!

Is It Right For You?

A recruiting service is right for some student-athletes. To find out if it’s a good fit for you interview a couple and see how they can help you or what they recommend. It doesn’t cost you anything to speak to the company and they may be able to offer you pointers or insight on your own recruiting needs.

To be contacted by the companies we recommend and trust follow the link at the top of the page that says “Athletes click here” or “Parents click here”.
